Isso é pra te levar no Ilê
This is to take you to Ilê
Pra te lembrar do Badauê
To remind you of Badauê
Pra te lembrar de lá
To remind you of there
Isso é pra te levar no meu terreiro (isso é)
This is to take you to my land (that is)
Pra te levar no candomblé (isso é)
To take you to Candomblé (that is)
Pra te levar no altar
To take you to the altar
Isso é pra te levar na fé
This is to lead you in faith
Deus é brasileiro
God is Brazilian
Muito obrigado, axé
Thank you very much, axé
Ilumina o Mirin Orunmilá
Illuminate Mirin Orunmila
Na estrada que vem a cota
On the road that comes to quota
É um malê, é um maleme
It's a malê, it's a maleme
Quem tem santo é quem entende
Those who have a saint are those who understand
Quanto mais (quem tem Ogum)
The more (who has Ogum)
Missão e paz
Mission and peace
Quanto mais pra quem tem ideais dos Orixás
How much more for those who have ideals of the Orishas
Joga as armas pra lá
Throw your weapons away
Joga, joga as armas pra lá
Play, throw your weapons away
Joga as armas pra lá
Throw your weapons away
Faz um samba
Do a samba
Joga as armas pra lá
Throw your weapons away
Joga, joga as armas pra lá
Play, throw your weapons away
Joga as armas pra lá
Throw your weapons away
Traz a orquestra
Bring an orchestra
Axé!

A Semente Do Samba
(The Seed of Samba)

A semente do Samba
The seed of Samba
Foi plantada no morro
Was planted on the hill.
Regada pelo choro dos meus antepassados
Watered by the tears of my ancestors
Brotou. Espalhando as raizes.
It sprouted, spreading its roots.
Trazendo alegria na natureza dos seus compassos.
Bringing happiness in the nature of its cadence.

No morro nasceu esse broto imperial.
On the hill this imperial sprout came to life.
Cultivado por um povo sem material
Cultivated by a people without much money
Foi propagando as radrículas
Its radicles propagated
Encobrindo a cidade
Covering the city
Formando o alicerce do nosso  Carnaval.
Forming the foundation for our  Carnaval.

Estrumado por um povo trazido na covardia,
Fertilized by a people brought over in cowardice,
Essa semente natural de Luanda que veio da Bahia
The seed with origins in Luanda that came from Bahia
Germinou na gema
Germinated in the yolk
Da cidade maravilhosa
Of the marvelous city
Trazendo para o seu povo tremenda alegria.
Bringing tremendous happiness to its people.

Cadência Do Samba
(Cadence of Samba)

Eu sei que vou morrer
I know I'm going to die
Não sei o dia
I don't know the day
Levarei saudades da Maria
I will miss Maria
Sei que vou morrer
I know I'm going to die
Não sei a hora
I don't know the time
Levarei saudades da Aurora
I will miss Aurora
Quero morrer numa batucada de bamba
I want to die in a drumbeat
Na cadência bonita do samba
In the beautiful cadence of samba
Mas o meu nome
But my name
Ninguém vai jogar na lama
No one will drag through the mud
Diz o dito popular
The popular saying goes
Morre o homem, fica a fama
The man dies, the fame remains
Eu quero morrer numa batucada de bamba
I want to die in a drumbeat
Na cadência bonita do samba
In the beautiful cadence of samba

Baianá

Boa noite, povo, que eu cheguei
Good evening, people, I've arrived
Mais outra vez apresentar meu baianá
Once again, present my baianá
Eu vou cantar com muita alegria
I will sing with great joy
Vou apresentar essas baiana da Maria
I'm going to introduce these Bahian Maria
Baianá, baianá

Homenagem Ao Malandro
(Homage to the Malandro)

Eu fui fazer um samba em homenagem
I went to do a samba in honor
À nata da malandragem
To the cream of the trickery
Que conheço de outros carnavais
That I know from other carnivals
Eu fui à Lapa e perdi a viagem
I went to Lapa and missed the trip
Que aquela tal malandragem
That such trickery
Não existe mais
Do not exist anymore
Agora já não é normal
Now it's not normal anymore
O que dá de malandro regular, profissional
What makes a regular, professional rogue
Malandro com aparato de malandro oficial
Trickster with official trickster apparatus
Malandro candidato a malandro federal
Rogue candidate for federal rogue
Malandro com retrato na coluna social
Trickster with portrait in the social column
Malandro com contrato, com gravata e capital
Trickster with a contract, with a tie and capital
Que nunca se dá mal
That never goes wrong
Mas o malandro pra valer não espalha
But the real scoundrel doesn't spread it
Aposentou a navalha
Retired the razor
Tem mulher e filho e tralha e tal
He has a wife and son and stuff and stuff
Dizem as más línguas que ele até trabalha
People say that he even works
Mora lá longe e chacoalha
Lives far away and shakes
Num trem da central
On a central train
Agora já não é normal
Now it's not normal anymore
O que dá de malandro regular, profissional
What makes a regular, professional rogue
Malandro com aparato de malandro oficial
Trickster with official trickster apparatus
Malandro candidato a malandro federal
Rogue candidate for federal rogue
Malandro com retrato na coluna social
Trickster with portrait in the social column
Malandro com contrato, com gravata e capital
Trickster with a contract, with a tie and capital
Mas o malandro pra valer não espalha
But the real scoundrel doesn't spread it
Aposentou a navalha
Retired the razor
Tem mulher e filho e tralha e tal
He has a wife and son and stuff and stuff
Dizem as más línguas que ele até trabalha
People say that he even works
Mora lá longe e chacoalha
Lives far away and shakes
Num trem da central
On a central train

Alma Livre (Free Soul)

Song composed by George Edgar Brown

“I’m the way that I am, I can’t deny it.
I can’t pretend so others are pleased.
I have everything I need to be happy.
I’m free the way I’ve always wanted to be.

Ei! Freedom don’t flee from me.
I’m on this path and I’ll follow it to the end.
Ei! There can be no shortage of freedom.
I feel at ease in any place.

I’m of a mixed race. I am Brazilian.
I’m from the good nature of the “atabaque” drum and the “pandeiro” tambourine
I’ve freed myself from the punishments of the overseer.
I’m also free from censorship and dictatorship.

Ei! Freedom don’t flee from me.
I’m on this path and I’ll follow it to the end.
Ei! There can be no shortage of freedom.
I feel at ease in any place.

My story is complex, I can’t lie.
But you can’t undervalue what I’ve suffered
My path is that of seeking happiness.
Without doubt my destiny is freedom.”

Enredo do Samba Fogo

Our official group song, “Samba Fogo” written by George Edgar Brown.

Essa chama que arde no coração
This flame that burns in my heart
Me chama ao calor do Samba
Calls me to the heat of Samba

É o brilho que ilumina a escuridão
It’s the glow that makes the darkness part
A luz que esclarece meu caminho
The light that clarifies my path
É cultura, arte, expressão
It’s expression, it’s culture, it’s art
É magia trazida de Aruanda
It’s magic brought to us from Aruanda
Das Cinzas pretas e brancas,
From black and white ashes,
De tanto sofrimento de outrora
From all suffering of yore

Nasceu um Fenix, Aceso e resplendente
A phoenix is born, flaming and resplendent
O sol queimando no romper da aurora.
A fire burning at the break of dawn.

É o Samba. É o Fogo. O  Samba fogo
It is Samba, it is Fire, Samba Fogo
Arrebate o coração
Captures the heart
O fogo pega. É contagioso
The fire catches. It’s contagious
É alegria é euforia é paixão
It is happiness, it is euphoria, it is passion
O Fogo Brilha, Que maravilha. Espalhando a cultura do Brasil.
The fire sparkles, a wondrous marvel
Nossa energia, nosso suor. Nosso esforço sempre com muito brio
All of our effort, our blood, tears and sweat,
all our labor meticulous and arduous,

É o combustível que conduz o Samba Fogo.
Is the glorious fuel that drives our Samba Fogo.
Spreading the culture of Brazil
Digo de novo. A cultura do Brasil.
Say it again. It’s the culture of Brazil.

É o Samba. É o Fogo. O  Samba fogo
It is Samba. It is Fire. Samba Fogo
Arrebate o coração.
Captures the heart.
O fogo pega. É contagioso. É alegria
The fire catches and it is contagious.
É euforia É paixão.
It is happiness, it is euphoria, it is passion.

Como uma febre o Samba me aquece.
Like a fever, Samba warms my body
Um calor tão radiante me consome
A radiating heat fully consumes me
É o Samba.    É o Fogo.
It is Samba, it is Fire.
Com muito fervor  vou exaltar o seu nome. É SAMBA FOGO.
With much ardor I wll exalt your name. IT IS SAMBA FOGO.

It is Samba. It is Fire.
Samba Fogo captures the heart.
The fire catches. It is contagious.
It is happiness. It is euphoria. It is passion.

Sing With Us:

É o Samba. É o fogo.
O Samba Fogo arrebata o coração.
O fogo pega. É contagioso.
É alegria. É euforia. É paixão.
