DANCE AUDITION

We are looking for passionate and dedicated Samba dancers to join the Samba Fogo Dance Company this season.

We are auditioning Samba dancers for our Summer contract, running mid-April through October 1, 2023. This audition is to welcome new members into our fold, to be on the call list when we get booked for festivals, private parties, school outreach activities, and community cultural nights. Most performance opportunities pay a small amount to cover gas and other expenses. Previous experience dancing Brazilian Samba is helpful, and it’s helpful if you own your own Samba costume (fantasia).

Our public dance classes typically run for 6-week series on Saturday mornings, 11:00am - 12:30pm. Dancers on the company are expected to attend public class as often as possible, to maintain and grow their skills. The next series will begin mid-April 2023 and run for six weeks. More info TBA.

Summer performance opportunities are scheduled at least two weeks ahead of time, and dance casting will be based on seniority, skill level, and consistent class attendance.

What to expect at the audition:
You will be asked to fill in a short questionnaire about your dance background, interest, and general availability. You will then learn some short movement sequences in a couple different styles of Samba (Rio and Bahia), and asked to repeat the sequences on your own after being given some time to memorize them.
